Gosh gosh gosh is the only polite way to say how packed we were last night! The annual carols night really did start Christmas with a bang for us! We were heaving and at one point the only way for peeps to get in and out was the back door! Passing the bucket round raised £300 for Norwich Young Carers, this years chosen cause of Canon John Minns. Not bad for such minature pub!Minnsy as we cheekily refer to him was on grand form, conducting not only carols but slipping in his remarks on City’s performance Saturday and taking the St Michael out of one Arsenal supporter! Charles Bartram one of our very own banjo band members gave the Canon a break and lead us all in Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer & White Christmas and we finnished on a high with Delila RIBS STYLE! Cameras were flashing as some wished to record the event to show friends and family. One very nice chap has written his blog already and posted some superb shots. Take a look here. Mick Buston Thank you Mick they are great. See you next year and a reminder to Roger for next year – Darling take more furniture out please – my shins are black and blue! Happy New Year everyone. Anthea.

On Sunday 18th December 2011 we are proud to be hosting our 35th Annual Christmas Carols singing at the Ribs of Beef. Several generations enjoy this event and every year our old friends return bringing in their children or even grand children! This year we hope to have our granddaughters present, maybe they will even sing a duo of “Away in a Manger” for us (with a little help!) Our charity collection this year will be for Norwich Young Carers of which there are sadly too many. Canon John Minns from St Georges Tombland will give us a little more information on this deserving cause on the night. If you have not been to a Carol singing night in a pub – well come along, I guarantee you will enjoy the experience! We are just down the road from Norwich Cathedral & Elm Hill . Plenty of parking in the Monastery car park or Fishergate. You will be very welcome by us all. A very “Merry Christmas” to you all. Canon John Minns will appreciate some help with vocals and so will we!

Since we started our customers surveys we soon realised you love our food so should not change our menu too much in the next season. We will be bringing back some old favourites like Bangers & Mash & Chilli Beef along with our Beef & Ale Pie which flies out of the kitchen! Roger is searching for some unusual and exciting beers for the autumn and we hope to have more local brewery beers available such as Fat Cat & Chalk Hill which proved popular during the City of Ale festival in May. The lovely Emily Brown is our quiz host. For our monthly quiz and chips night, call or email her for details via the website. Sue Holland is our party organiser and sets up the Wherry Room for private dining, weddings, lunches, tea parties, wine tastings, Champagne brunches and recently the CNSOB City of Norwich school reunion! Why not host your own school reunion? You bring the guests and we will provide the food! Free of Charge!!!! Call Sue or Emily for more details on 01603 619517 or email via this website. Don’t forget THE WIFI IS FREE and you get a bottomless mug of coffee with your loyalty card. No point going to the office after all! The Wherry room is quiet in the afternoons, if you need somewhere to meet a client where better? Our staff are happy to do table service.
We are very proud to announce that our kitchen, bar & cellar achieved 5 stars ( the highest) again this inspection. We have perhaps the smallest and most difficult kitchen space in the world so it is especially difficult for the food staff to work under pressure. We thank them and are pleased to give them a little pay increase as a thank you. However we must not forget to work on maintaining this high standard on a daily basis! Thank you guys.
